ABOUT ME IN MONTENEGRO
My name is Cecile, I'm a 37-year old mom of 2. I was born and raised in France but I've been living abroad a lot, and after having enjoyed the charms of Montenegro for 9 years, I am now living in Belgrade, Serbia. Raised with the habit of sorting all waste since my youngest age, I was quite unsettled when I arrived in Montenegro as there was no such thing as recycling centres. It's better now, we are getting there, but there's a really long way to go… Recycling is apparently not even close to something the government is willing to work on. Having said that, I certainly do not mean to judge Montenegrins as a people. I know for a fact that more often than not, people throw their trash out the car window, and that's BAD of course! But let's have a look at the general picture: Montenegro is much less developed as a consumption society than Western Europe's countries. People still live a lot in their micro-farms, raising their own chickens and pigs, making the most of what mother nature has to offer. And for those who don't well… there are not as many massive malls and purchasing temptations here as every else, and people can't really afford all that sh… anyway so, at the end of the day, I believe they waste less than Western Europeans do, with their beautiful recycling centres giving them a clear conscience ;) |
PROJECT GENESIS
So, starting from the statement that every milk pack I empty and put in my trash goes… god knows where, I had to find a way to upcycle them myself. I surfed the web and found a couple of interesting ideas, but nothing I was really matching my needs. I wanted something that:
Crossing and mixing several tutorials I found on the web, I created my very first basket in August 2014. My technique was then quite poor but with experience I've improved and got much faster and more precise. Since then I've made over 200 baskets and given most of them as presents to my friends and family, who have all loved them. They have encouraged me to push it and take this project to the next level. Thank you all very much for that, you're the reason why this website exists today. |
